5mm or 6mm wide (measured across the flats where the cable hole is)

• 5mm uses an 8mm nut
• 6mm uses a 10mm nut

In most cases gear pinch bolts are 5mm & brake are 6mm across the flats 
Most alloy brake calipers also use a 5mm bolt
